Coles Plus Saver Review: Is It Worth $7 a Month?

For us, yes: the 10% monthly discount covers the membership fee, and the double Flybuys points are the bonus.
In this Coles Plus Saver review, I’ll look at how the $7 monthly fee works, where I think the value is, and how I use Flybuys to build Velocity Points for travel.
Coles Plus Saver costs $7 a month and gives you:
10% off one eligible Coles supermarket shop each calendar month, up to $50 off
Double Flybuys points on eligible spend at Coles and Liquorland
Access to member-only offers and promotions
One important distinction: the monthly 10% discount is for eligible Coles supermarket shops, while the double Flybuys points also extend to eligible spending at Liquorland.
I don’t think you need to stay loyal to one rewards program forever. For me, it’s about using the program that best suits the trip we’re currently saving for.

My Coles Plus Saver Review: Is the $7 Fee Worth It?
The maths is pretty straightforward.
If you use your 10% discount on $70 of eligible spending you were already going to make, you save $7.
That effectively covers your membership fee for the month. But that’s only the break-even point.

Once the 10% discount has covered the fee, the double Flybuys points are the real upside, along with any member-only offers you use.
You also don’t need to spend $500 simply because the maximum monthly discount is $50. Spend what suits your household and budget.
The important thing is to actually use your 10% discount each month. If you don’t use it, it expires at the end of the calendar month and you’ve still paid the $7 membership fee.

Discount First, Bonus Points Second
This is probably my biggest rule with supermarket rewards programs.
I don’t buy something simply because it has 5x or 10x bonus points attached.
If a $20 product has bonus Flybuys points but I know it regularly goes half price for $10, I’d usually rather wait and save the $10.
If it’s something I genuinely need, the price is good and there are bonus points attached, then great, the points are the extra.
My Best Tip: Stack the 10% With Half-Price Specials
I save my monthly 10% discount for a bigger stock-up shop rather than automatically using it on a small weekly shop.
That’s when I look at household essentials and non-perishables such as:
washing powder
dishwasher tablets
cleaning products
toiletries
pantry staples
Then I check which of those products are already heavily discounted that week.
The Coles Plus Saver discount is applied after other eligible savings and discounts. That means an eligible product that is already 50% off can still form part of the shop where you use your additional 10% discount.
That’s where I think the real value is.
Buy the things you actually need when they’re already heavily discounted, then apply your 10% Saver discount to the shop as well.
There are exclusions, including gift cards and some other products and charges, so it’s worth checking the current Coles Plus Saver terms before relying on the discount for a particular purchase.
Check Your Flybuys Offers Before You Shop
Before shopping, I open the Flybuys app and activate any relevant offers.
It takes less than a minute, and I don’t want to miss bonus points on spending I was already planning to make.
I particularly watch for the bigger targeted offers. For example, I currently have an offer to spend $80 each week for four weeks and choose either 10,000 Flybuys points or $50 off.
These types of offers aren’t necessarily a Coles Plus Saver benefit, I received similar offers before joining, but they can be worth taking advantage of if the spending requirement fits what you would normally spend anyway.

What Are 10,000 Flybuys Points Actually Worth?
If you want a straightforward redemption, 2,000 Flybuys points can currently be converted to $10 Flybuys Dollars.
So:10,000 Flybuys points = $50 Flybuys Dollars
For some families, taking the $50 value will make the most sense.
My current goal is different.
Flybuys currently transfers to Velocity at: 1,000 Flybuys points = 500 Velocity Points
So: 10,000 Flybuys points = 5,000 Velocity Points
If I’m aiming for an 80,000-point Velocity reward seat, those 5,000 points get me 6.25% of the way there.
The $50 option gives you a known redemption value. The value you get from Velocity Points can vary considerably depending on the flight, route and cabin you eventually redeem them for.
Because we have a specific Europe trip in mind, I’m currently choosing to build our Velocity balance.

Who Might Not Get Value From Coles Plus Saver?
Coles Plus Saver won’t suit everyone.
I’d think twice about paying for it if you:
rarely spend enough in one eligible shop to recover the $7 monthly fee
are likely to forget to use the monthly 10% discount
don’t particularly value Flybuys points
are unlikely to use any of the additional member offers
The point isn’t to spend more to justify having the membership.
It’s to get more value from spending you were already going to do.
So, Is Coles Plus Saver Worth It?
For us, yes.
The 10% monthly discount covers the $7 fee, and the double Flybuys points are the extra value.
My rule is simple: Discount first. Bonus points second.
Right now, Coles Plus Saver also fits our goal of building Velocity Points for our Europe trip, which makes it worthwhile for us.
As with any rewards program, though, I’d only keep paying for it while the benefits outweigh the cost.
All fees, discount limits, Flybuys earn rates and Velocity transfer rates mentioned in this article are current as of October 2026 and may change.
