Groceries are one of the easiest ways to earn travel rewards because it's money we're already spending every week. Here's the exact system our family uses to turn everyday spending into Qantas Points and help pay for family holidays.

In This Guide:
Can You Really Earn Flights From Grocery Shopping?
Absolutely, but probably not in the way you think.
We haven't doubled our grocery budget or spent hours chasing every deal. Instead, we've built a simple system around the groceries we were already buying.
Over time, those everyday purchases have earned enough Qantas Points to significantly reduce the cost of our family holidays.
We've been collecting travel reward points for years and have used them to help reduce the cost of everything from domestic flights to international business class travel. This isn't a theory—we're sharing the exact system our family uses every week.
Here's exactly how we do it.
What is Everyday Rewards?

Everyday Rewards is Woolworths' free loyalty program that rewards you for shopping with Woolworths and participating partners.
Every time you shop and scan your Everyday Rewards card, you'll earn at least 1 Everyday Rewards point for every eligible dollar you spend.
Once you've collected 2,000 Everyday Rewards points, you can choose to:
Receive $10 off a future Woolworths shop.
Bank your Rewards Dollars for Christmas and use them between 1 December and 1 January.
Convert your points into 1,000 Qantas Points by linking your Qantas Frequent Flyer account.
For our family, we always choose the Qantas Points because our goal is to reduce the cost of flights.
Don't Skip Your Boost Offers
This is where many of our bonus points come from.
Before every grocery shop, we open the Everyday Rewards app and activate any available Boost offers. It takes less than a minute and can earn hundreds—or sometimes thousands—of bonus points.
These personalised offers change regularly, so it's worth checking before every shop.
You'll often see offers like:
Spend a certain amount to earn bonus points.
Buy selected products for extra points.
Complete a series of weekly shops to unlock an even bigger bonus.

These targeted offers have become one of the easiest ways we've accelerated our points balance and helped fund our family holidays.
Everyday Rewards Extra: Is It Worth It?
We also subscribe to Everyday Rewards Extra, and for our family it easily pays for itself.
The membership costs $7 per month or $70 per year (about $5.83 per month when paid annually) and includes a free trial, so you can decide whether it's worthwhile for your household.
For us, the 10% off one Woolworths shop each month usually covers the membership cost on its own.
Because we have our groceries delivered twice a week, we also get great value from the free delivery and bonus Everyday Rewards points.
Everyday Rewards Extra includes:
10% off one Woolworths shop each month (up to $50 savings)
Double Everyday Rewards points on Woolworths and BIG W purchases
Subscriber-only bonus offers and occasional free products
Our tip: Save your monthly 10% discount for your biggest grocery shop each month to maximise your savings.

Don't Forget Gift Card Promotions
One of the easiest ways we earn extra points is by buying gift cards during bonus points promotions.
If we know we'll be shopping at Woolworths, BIG W, BWS or Dan Murphy's, we'll often buy a Woolworths Group Gift Card when there's a bonus points offer. We're spending the same money—we're just earning extra points first.
For example:

Buy a $350 Woolworths Group Gift Card during a promotion like this and you could earn 2,500 bonus Everyday Rewards points. Since we'd spend that money on groceries and household essentials anyway, it's an easy way to boost our points balance without spending any extra.
Real Examples From Our Everyday Rewards Account
One of the reasons we love Everyday Rewards is that the bonus offers can dramatically outweigh the base points you earn from shopping.
Example 1: A $278 Grocery Shop Earned 5,540 Points
On one online grocery order we spent $278.21 and earned 5,540 Everyday Rewards points.
That included:
278 base points
5,000 bonus points from a targeted promotion
208 bonus points through Everyday Rewards Extra
Additional product bonus points
Without activating the offer, we would have earned just 278 points. Instead, we earned more than 5,500 points from one grocery shop.

Everyday Rewards Isn't Just for Groceries
We also earned 2,138 Everyday Rewards points on a $138 purchase at BWS.
That included:
138 base points
2,000 bonus points from a Boost offer
If you're already planning to make a purchase, these targeted promotions can be an easy way to earn thousands of extra points without increasing your spending.

Where Else Can You Earn Everyday Rewards Points?
While Woolworths supermarkets are where we earn most of our points, there are plenty of other ways to build your balance.
You can earn Everyday Rewards points with participating partners including:
Woolworths
Woolworths Metro
BIG W
BWS
Participating Ampol and EG Ampol locations
Petstock
Healthylife
There are also opportunities to earn bonus points or transfer points by linking Everyday Rewards with services such as:
Qantas Frequent Flyer
Bupa
Origin Energy
Selected bank rewards programs
Partner offers change regularly, so it's worth checking for new opportunities.
Don't overlook the fuel discount. If you're collecting Everyday Rewards points, you can also save 4¢ per litre on fuel at participating Ampol and EG Ampol locations when you spend $30 or more at Woolworths.
What Can You Do With Your Everyday Rewards Points?
Once you've collected 2,000 Everyday Rewards points, you have three choices.
Redeem Option | How It Works | Who It's Best For |
💰 $10 off your groceries | Redeem 2,000 Everyday Rewards points for $10 off your shopping. | Anyone looking for instant savings on their weekly grocery shop. |
🎄 Bank for Christmas | Save your Rewards Dollars throughout the year and redeem them during the Christmas redemption period. | Families wanting to reduce the cost of Christmas groceries. |
✈️ Convert to Qantas Points (Our family's choice) | Link your Qantas Frequent Flyer account and automatically convert your Everyday Rewards points into Qantas Points. | Travellers saving for flights, upgrades and reward seats. |
Why We Choose Qantas Points
By linking your Qantas Frequent Flyer account, every 2,000 Everyday Rewards points automatically converts into 1,000 Qantas Points.
Those Qantas Points can then be used towards flights, flight upgrades and other travel rewards.
For us, this is where the real value lies. We'd much rather turn our weekly grocery shop into flights and family holidays than save $10 on a single grocery shop. Every grocery delivery, fuel stop and bonus points offer helps bring our next adventure a little closer.
